Reflective Artworks
Part of an ongoing series,
on canvas panel, canvas, or wood, these have been created using mixed
media and recycled materials including: vintage paper, acrylic,
pencils, inks and oil sticks. Each is titled and signed by me on
the back, with this artist statement. Prints are currently
available.
Each is created from a
unique story.
Street Girl: Whilst on
holiday in Melbourne, we explored the back streets, and alleyways.
On a self guided walking tour we took photos of two teenage girls,
just sitting, drinking wine from a flagon, who were smiling and
waving at passers by. They enjoyed posing for their photo to be
taken – but I often wondered about their life. This picture hints
at a darker side of urban youth.
For the Aunties has an
interesting story. I have a family heritage of Indigenous
Australians. Although it is for me in the distant past it is still
an area I have always been interested in, and my Grandmother, and
mother spent a lot of time researching all aspects of the family
tree. Along the way we have learned about many sad stories,
including the Stolen Generation. When I started this piece I just
glued down pages torn from an old book. After painting the
background the chapter title, ‘Heartbreak’ still stood out. It
was from this word that I then focussed on, and I drew loosely from a
photo. Although the whole work was unplanned, it really spoke to me
at the end about all the years of stories in my family’s heritage.
So I painted this for all my Aunties that I’ll never know, for the
strength of my Grandmother and Mother, and for all mothers in
general.
For the Aunties.

Series using Vintage Linen
Created on hardboard,
ready to hang, these have been created using mixed media including:
vintage linen, texture paste, acrylic, pencils, inks and oil sticks.
Each is titled and signed by me on the back, with this artist
statement.
Created out of a desire to
show the beautiful artistry of old vintage linen, and doilies found
at op shops, and to reflect the lighter side of life. There are
currently four completed works, and further works are in progress.
Care for original artwork: display out
of direct sunlight, protect from high humidity and moisture. These
are only lightly sealed with a fixative. I use artist quality
pigments, however due care should always be taken.
All copy write remains
with me as artist. As a mixed media artist I love experimenting with
many mediums, including: pastels, watercolour, acrylics, vintage
ephemera, vintage linen, and found objects. Because I love to
re-use and re-cycle, I will package my art using re-cycled materials
before buying anything new – that is if it doesn’t end up in my
art in another way!
Dream.
